Forgotten Victims of Alzheimer’s Disease: Caregivers

Did you know that forty percent of people who care for Alzheimer’s Disease victims become victims of depression? The emotional, mental and physical costs of caring for victims of AD can be as devastating as the financial costs. In this post on Alzheimer’s Reading Room, Bob DeMarco offers some great advice:

  • First, realize that the risk of depression in caregivers is very real.
  • Understand that there is something you can do to help fight it.
  • Seek out a support group of other people caring for Alzheimer’s patients.
  • Reach out and help a caregiver. A simple thing like taking over for a brief period so they can enjoy life a bit can go a long way.

Never give up hope.
